William R Albey Dies in Hospital
William R. Albey, aged 83, a retired contractor and lifetime resident of Malvern, (Arkansas) died May 9 (1970) in the Hot Spring County Memorial Hospital. He was born June 20, 1886 and was married to Bessie Draper. Mr Albey was a member of the United Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Claude V Albey of Pine Bluff; two daughters, Mrs Hazel L Albey of Arlington, Va. and Miss Lois A Hubbard of Narco, California and one step-daughter, Mrs Vera M Wilcox of Reseda, California, and one brother Austin A Albey of Malvern; three sisters, Mrs Doris Davis and Mrs Annie Hightower both of Malvern and Mrs Elva Richardson of Gilliam, Mo. and six grandchildren.
Funeral will be Tuesday at two o'clock in the chapel of Atkinson Funeral Home with Rev Earnest Jones officiating. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Loren Albey, David, Autry Lee and Eudell Hightower, Claudie Draper and Wallace Hall. Honorary pallbearers will be W.S. Behrens, P.E. Mikels, Charlie Brooks and Edwin Helms.

Most children born in Tennessee, with a couple born in Mississippi before Shipman and Sarah brought family to Drew County Arkansas.
There are no headstones to be found for Shipman, his wife Sarah, or my 2 greats grandmother Elmira, who married a young man named Simon Peter Sumner very shortly after the family arrived in Drew County, and when he passed in 1871, she almost immediately remarried to a Yankee soldier (John Maes) from Wisconsin, and then she disappeared until 1910, when found living with her daughter and family.
Once a prominant land owner, what the family owned was lost during and after the civil war. Carpetbaggers ravaged the county. This document is one of a couple of documents that gives me a clue as to the approximate date of Shipman's death. The children scattered between 1870-1880, with Sarah passing between 1876-1877. Drew County Courthouse is very small and several records have been removed to other storage.
I do not have the source for this document. It was sent to me many years ago by a family researcher. All I have is the page number of the estate book - 326. The Denton and Sumner family research folders are both fairly slim books and have been for most of my 42 years of researching. I'll never give up though!

Massure Nara Myrick Sanders died less than 3 months later and I do not have any idea where she is buried, nor her husband. The children, though, are all buried in Shiloh Cemetery, in Southern Howard County Arkansas.
John P. Sanders and Massure Nara Myrick had the following children:

ED SANDERS was born in 1871. He died on 17 Feb 1938 in Howard County Arkansas (Shiloh Cemetery ). He married LUCY A YOUNG. She was born in 1880. She died in 1963.

ELISHA CHRISTENBERRY "LISH" SANDERS was born on 14 Oct 1887. He died on 01 Apr 1967 in Howard County Arkansas (Shiloh Cemetery ). He married LILLIAN EDNA HOSEY. She was born in 1891. She died in 1974 in Howard County Arkansas (Shiloh Cemetery ).

PLEAS CALVIN SANDERS was born in 1894. He died in 1937 in Howard County Arkansas (Shiloh Cemetery ). He married LELA MAE.

DAVID SANDERS was born on 24 Mar 1878. He died on 03 Jun 1959 in Howard County Akansas (Shiloh Cemetery ). He married LAURA HOSEY. She was born on 05 Dec 1889. She died on 06 Jul 1973 in Howard County Arkansas (Shiloh Cemetery ).

Massure was my 2 greats grand aunt, sister to my 2 greats grandmother Mary Melissa Myrick Sutton.
{just for fun...The meaning of the given name Massure represents compassion, creativity, reliability, generosity, loyalty and a love for domestic life. The name Nara stands for seriousness, thought, intuition, intent and wisdom. Which is all neither here nor there, but interesting to me.}

Every summer... shelling purple hull peas, .ice cold sweet tea, watermelons, wood floors, green linoleum dining table, well water, face powder.
She wore roll- up stockings to just below her knee, and always wore dresses until after my grandpa passed. Then she started wearing pants every now and then.
If a bad storm was coming, she would part the clouds with an ax put in the ground out in the garden to split the clouds and keep her home safe. (I never actually saw her do this, but was told she did.) She also had a hidey hole, but I did not like that place due to my deep seated fear of spiders, red wasps and snakes.
She had chickens and hogs and I imagine they did not have names, because they were breakfast, lunch and dinner. (I swear she is choking a chicken in this picture, but I can't really tell) My grandpa also had cattle.
She made homemade biscuits every day. The flour was kept in a bowl with a towel over it under the cabinet. She hollowed out the flour, poured milk into the hole, then rotated her hand around and around until a biscuit was formed. She then placed the biscuit in an old black pan, and patted it in the middle with the back of her fingers, the poured a bit of melted butter over that. Grease (lard) was involved, but I don't remember when she put it in)

This is one of my favorite photos- taken in 1958, almost 60 years ago. The baby is me, and to the right is my sweet mom- I miss her so much!
Standing is my granny- my mom's mom, Esther Adaline Nichols Albey, and holding me is Sara Adaline Fitzhugh Nichols, my great grandmother, who passed about one year later.
