Linnie Clark Sutton

My great grandmother, Linnie Clark,  was born on April 30, 1875 to L.C. Clark and Lucretia Greene Kent Clark in Dallas, Texas. The name of her father comes from her death certificate and I have not been able to find any further information on him, including a marriage to Linnie's mother Lucretia.

Linnie is enumerated in the 1880 Wise County Texas census in the household of her aunt and uncle, (on her mother's side) William and Margaret Dickson.  Her mother Lucretia and three Kent half-siblings are also listed.

Linnie moved with her family to Howard County Arkansas where her mother married Otto Schaal on February 28, 1884.  At the age of 18 she married James C Sutton, and they had the following children: Edgar, Clarence, Jesse, Kelsey, Chelsey, Roy, John Harve, Earl, Emmett, Cecil, Fred, Viola, Dovie, Pearl, Annie and Eathel.  Sixteen children, (two sets of twins) in a twenty four year span.  She and James lost four girls (one at two months, one at nine months, one at two years and one at age 12).  They also lost a son (my grandfather's twin) at age 21.  He died of a heart attack or heat stroke after helping his dad in the hay field.

After James died in 1942, Linnie moved to Paris, Texas to live with her daughter Eathel Sutton Ludlam.  She passed away there on  February 9, 1959.  She was brought back to Howard County and laid to rest beside James in Shiloh Cemetery.
