Tombstone Tuesday ~ Harriett N. Suddarth Oakley Cowling

Harriet N Suddarth was born on December 4, 1831 to Dyer and Martha Gardner Suddarth in Franklin County Ternnessee. Her siblings were: Wallace, Rachael, Elizabeth, Virginia and Frances.  On November 25, 1851 she married Francis Marion Oakley, and they resided in Franklin County until sometime between 1856 and 1860, when they are found residing in Sevier County Arkansas on the census.

Harriet and Francis had the following children: James Calvin, Dyer Anderson, Fannie, Laura Virginia, George Morrison, Jasper Boone and Joseph Benjamin.

Francis died in 1874 and was buried in the Mineral Springs Cemetery.  On the 1880 census, Harriett is shown as a resident  in Mineral Springs, Howard County Arkansas with three of her children: George, Jasper and Joseph.

On August 25, 1886 Harriett married D.C. Cowling in Mineral Springs.  She passed away on  April 11, 1890 and was also buried in the Mineral Springs Cemetery.


  1. It looks like this stone has been repaired. You are lucky it is still in place for you to discover.

  2. Shame the stone is so damaged. I wonder how it could be preserved? They put plexiglass covers on some of the ones around here.
