52 Ancestors/52 Weeks #6 ~ Emily R. Gilbert


Emily R. Gilbert first saw the light of day on July 3, 1847..just in time to be part of the celebration of her country's  anniversary of American independence.  She was born in Limestone County Alabama to Mace Humphrey & Martha Davidson Gilbert, the fifth of eight children.  Her siblings were:  Thomas, Mary, Robert, Martha Mariah, Lucy, Leanna and James.

On January 15, 1872, Emily married William Fletcher Easter.  He died on October 19, 1884.  Emily then married William's cousin Markham Champion Easter on August 12, 1889.  On September 19, 1894 she gave birth to her second child Samuel Gilbert Easter. Her first child was died in infancy in 1890.

She and Markham lived their entire lives in Limestone County Alabama and died within a year of each other.

She passed on May 20, 1925 and is buried with her second husband Markham in Poplar Creek Cemetery, in Limestone Co Alabama.  Her first husband William, is also buried in this cemetery.

Emily was my 2 greats grand aunt.
