52 Ancestors/52 Weeks #1 ~ Martha Madora Albey

Martha Madora (Dora) and her twin brother William Robert Albey were born on June 20 1886 in Reyburn, Hot Spring County Arkansas to parents James Wylie and Mary Alice Sumner Albey.

Her family moved around a lot during her childhood, from Reyburn, to White Oak; Houston and Morrilton and finally to Malvern (all in Arkansas).

Dora had six other siblings besides her twin brother William.  They were: Minnie Bell, Annie, Elvie, Lawrence, Johnny and my grandfather, Austin.
On January 6, 1906 Dora married James Y Davis in Garland County Arkansas.  He was the son of C Mart & Sarah Spencer Davis.

Dora and James lived their lives in Hot Spring County.  Their children were Ruby, James, John Ray, Geneva and Myrtle.

James died on November 5, 1938 leaving Dora a widow for almost fifty years.  She passed on March 1, 1986.  They are both buried in Alford Cemetery in Hot Spring Co Arkansas.  Dora and James were my grand aunt and uncle.

The 52 Ancestors/52 Weeks challenge is from Amy Johnson Crow.

  1. Aw - poor Dora - now she is reunited once again with her beloved. She lived a nice, long life - 99 years! I love all the names of her siblings and children. My hubby and I were just talking last night about sweet old names rarely heard any more, and Ruby was one we mentioned. It was after he read me an obituary in the paper. We love reading the obits...How sweet that they are buried together.

  2. I have several ancestors who were widows more than half their lives. Seems sad.
