52 Ancestors/52 Weeks #3 ~ Mary Melissa Myrick Sutton

Mary Melissa Myrick was born in May of 1857 in Lauderdale County Alabama to Elizas C & Ann Elizabeth Porter Myrick.  While still an infant, her family moved to Hempstead County Arkansas.

Mary had eight siblings: Hiram, James, Isaac, Sarah, John Calvin, Massure Nara, Nancy, and Frances Elizabeth.

On August 17, 1871 she married my two greats grandfather John Wesley Sutton, and by 1880 they had four sons- James C., William Allen, Jack and Lee, and one daughter Tennessee Jane.  Three of the five passed before 1880- William, Jack and Lee.
Five more children were added to the family between 1880 and  1900- Claude, Arminta, Florence, Lula and John Harve.

Mary and John were farmers and lived their lives out in Howard and Sevier Counties in Arkansas.  Mary passed in 1929 and John followed ten years later.  He lived his last years with different children, and rumors are that he died on his old horse that he used to ride every day.

Mary was my two greats grandmother.
