Tombstone Tuesday ~ Sarah Webb Sutton

Sarah Webb was the third of twelve (known) children born to Allen & Rebecca Webb Webb. Her parents have been reported to be cousins, but I have yet to find a connection.  Sarah was born in Roane County Tennessee.  She married Chrisanbury "Berry" Sutton in Bradley County Tennessee about 1848, and their first child, Luraney, was born in that county in 1849.  Very shortly after her birth, the small family joined with many other Sutton & associated families and formed a wagon train to Arkansas.  They arrived in Hempstead County Arkansas about 1850, where my 2 greats grandfather John was born in December of that year.
Sarah is buried in Zion Cemetery, Hempstead County Arkansas, just a few miles from Nashville.  Both of her parents and several siblings are also buried here.  I am still seeking her husband Berry's place of burial.

Taphophile Tragics

  1. Wonderful to trace the history of Sarah and her family. I hope you find where her husband was buried. It would be fun to find out the whole story. xo Karen

  2. Such a shame to see her stone broken. Fascinating post.

    Beneath Thy Feet

  3. Lucky that you were able to find that fallen and broken stone. It is good that you photographed it because it does not look like it will be around for another 100 years.

  4. Colleen, I'm not sure it will even last another ten years..the cemetery is in a remote location and has been vandalized a few times in the past..some stones have been pushed over. I wish I had the money to place new ones beside the old.
Beatrice- I would love to find him there...but I think he is over in Texas with his second wife...most likely unmarked grave.
