Richard Alby was born about 1830 in Pulaski County Arkansas, his family arriving in the area about 1828.
They moved to Saline County, Ar in 1840 and then settled in Perry County. Ar about 1848.
Richard is listed on the Perry County census in 1850 and again in 1860.
He joined 10th Ar Inf in 1862, and was injured in the Battle of Shiloh. Click here for an article about this unit at Faulkner County Historical Society's site.
According to the hospital records, he survived his wounds, and his company's pay roll (dated 11/1/1862) shows he was paid for service at least through July and August that year.
Then he disappears.
He isn't listed on the 1870 census anywhere.
And of course, Perry County is a burn county.
To my knowledge, he never married or had any children. I've not found a grave in Perry County for him, but his parents and siblings (except for two sisters) are buried in unmarked graves, so it's a good possibility he is too.
I would love to know the rest of his story.
